Retreat, Department of Family Medicine in the Medical School at the University of Minnesota

St. Joe's Family Medicine Residency Program held their annual resident/faculty retreat on Friday, April 25, 2008. The group convened at the Tamarack Nature Center in White Bear Lake Township for a lighthearted orienteering workshop and treasure hunt competition.

Despite the unseasonably cold and drizzly weather, the group not only survived but flourished throughout the afternoon. They finished the course in record time and learned a lot about teamwork and their colleagues in the process! Christine Danner, PhD, who led the retreat exercises, was impressed by the lack of whining about the weather and the scout-like preparedness of the group—most of whom came appropriately dressed for the event.

Casey Martin, MD, looked particularly dashing in his rubber ducky yellow rain slicker

Christine Danner, PhD, wore stylish striped rubber boots

After the outdoor adventure, the group relaxed and recuperated over some delicious food, including lots of cookies, and participated in an exercise in perspective-taking. The afternoon once again proved the old adage that a group that plays together can survive residency and maybe make some friends along the way (some poetic license was taken with the original old adage).
