Purpose
To ensure that trainee contact information is not being released without prior approval, in most circumstances, from the trainees themselves. Also, to ensure minimal disruption of educational activities of the trainees when they are on duty.

Policy
It is recommended that the program check with their trainees to see how they would like to handle inquiries.  Trainee’s pager number, email address, home phone number or address should not be released without their expressed consent. In some cases, the Resident Representatives may give permission to release select information on behalf of all residents enrolled in a University of Minnesota Residency and/or Fellowship Programs.

Questions regarding what types of contact information can be released to military personnel should be directed to:

Clarification
It was brought forward by the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) Resident Representatives that they, as well as other trainees, have been contacted either via pager or email by recruiters and pharmaceutical reps during the workday.  The intent of this policy is to help reduce the non-urgent pages and emails during the trainees’ business day.
