This International Study Award for medical students was created through an endowment established by Dr. Paul G. Quie and his wife Elizabeth. The purpose is to encourage medical students to seek educational experiences in pediatrics in international health.

| Procedure/basis for selection of awardees: |
In applying for the award, students will provide a brief (one-page) description of the proposed experience, identifying academic center or health care center, supervisor(s) and proposed activities. The application will include a description of how the experience may enhance the student’s perspective on medical care. Applications will be judged on the quality of the medical experience itself and the student’s statement. The time frame of the international elective should be no less then 4 weeks with higher priority given to those electives lasting 6-8 weeks. |
| Requirements for credit: |
Students are expected to keep a journal and prepare a two to three page report which will be filed with the International Medical Education and Research (IMER) Office within 30 days of the student’s return from abroad. The report will be a requirement for academic credit. Recipients of the award will be required to obtain emergency assistance insurance (see IMER Office for ideas on insurance coverage). The fee for this insurance should be submitted to the IMER Office for separate reimbursement. |

Applications, generally from 3rd and 4th year medical students, are reviewed twice each year and are due in the IMER program office by April 30 or December 31. The IMER Awards Committee will review applications by June 1 and February 1, after consultation with MMF, notification of awards will be sent to medical students June 15 and February 15 respectively. |
