Shared Resources, Center for Immunology, University of Minnesota

The mission of the Center for Immunology at the University of Minnesota is to coordinate and promote efforts in immunology research, education and clinical applications. The shared resources described below proved a stable, cost-effective and technologically relevant means of supporting those goals and are available to other researchers both within and outside the University community.

Location: 6th Floor, Nils Hasselmo Hall (NHH)

Contact: Deb Lins, 612-626-2476

Cesium Irradiator
The Cesium Irradiator resource houses a J.L.Shepherd Mark I Model 30 irradiator for use with a variety of samples including biological and industrial. The current maximum dosage is approximately 43,000 RADS/min. Access to the unit is secured by a biometric system based on fingerprint scan technology.

Flow Cytometry    Contact Person: Paul Champoux, 612-626-3068
An important asset to the Center is our Flow Cytometry Core Facility. Consisting of 5 benchtop analyzers, a dual G5 Mac workstation and high-quality color printing capability. Instrumentation consists of 1 FACScan, capable of 5-parameter acquisition, and 2 FACSCaliburs, capable of 6 parameter acquisition and 2 Becton-Dickinson LSR II's. One FACSCalibur(E1764) is equipped with the Autoloader and Sort module. LSR II(H1160) is equipped with 4 lasers(14 parameter including UV) while the other LSR II(H1010) has 3 lasers(11 parameter) including a 50mW Violet.

Instrumentation
A variety of common laboratory instrumentation is also shared by the center staff members. A sampling of this equipment encompasses centrifugation, spectrophotometry, real-time PCR, radioisotope counting, and protein purification.
