Privileges of Faculty Membership.
Lillehei Heart Institute Members, in addition to the ability to use shared resources,
may be eligible to:
- Obtain Lillehei Heart Institute research funds.
- Obtain Lillehei Heart Institute scholarships and fellowships for students and
trainees.
- Priority access to Lillehei Heart Institute core facilities and equipment.
Responsibilities of Membership:
- Work with other members of the Lillehei Heart
Institute to develop and participate in research and education programs.
- Acknowledge Lillehei Heart Institute membership in Cardiovascular-Pulmonary
(CVP) related intramural proposals and/or extramural grant applications in
which the member is or plans to be involved.
- Obtain approval of Lillehei Heart Institute administrative office prior to
use of Lillehei Heart Institute resources.
- Participate in private fundraising activities.
Criteria for Membership
Lillehei Heart Institute membership is divided into three categories: full, adjunct and trainee/student.
- A member has faculty rank at the University of Minnesota (Assistant Professor
or above on the tenure or non-tenure track) and has published peer-reviewed
CVP-related research. Basic investigators should have been awarded peer-reviewed
grant or contract support.
- An adjunct member is an investigator from outside the University of Minnesota
who has an ongoing affiliation with a program of the Lillehei Heart Institute
and who collaborates in University of Minnesota CVP research.
- A trainee/student member is any student or trainee (resident, fellow, graduate
student, medical student, or undergraduate student) at the University of Minnesota
who is actively involved in CVP research.
Procedure for Application
Individuals may apply for membership through submission of the Lillehei Heart
Institute Application for Membership.
- The applicant will include a statement to the Lillehei Heart Institute regarding
his/her primary/other area of interest in cardiovascular and respiratory science.
- If all criteria are met, the LHI directors will appoint the candidate to the
appropriate membership category and programmatic area.
Review for Continued Membership
All members are reviewed by the Lillehei Heart Institute Directors every three
to five years for continued membership. Generally, membership is maintained
unless there is a major change in career or research activities or appointment
with the University of Minnesota has terminated. If upon review the Lillehei
Heart Institute Directors consider a member no longer meets the criteria
for active membership, he/she will be contacted to discuss appropriateness
of continued membership.
