Message from the Director, Combined MD/PhD Program at the University of Minnesota

Dr. Tucker LeBein

The M.D./Ph.D. Program at the University of Minnesota is one of 42 Medical Scientist Training Programs (MSTP) supported by the National Institutes of Health. As such, it is among the top dual degree programs in the country. Successful pursuit of the M.D./Ph.D. requires intellect, passion for science and medicine, and stamina. The long-term return on your commitment is unlimited. Your training will place you at the forefront of clinical investigation and the practice of medicine.

A number of factors characterize and distinguish our program. The Medical School is located on the campus of one of the largest public universities in the country. The Medical School and the broader University are on the verge of an unprecedented expansion in construction of research and clinical facilities and recruitment of new faculty. As a result, there is an extraordinary diversity of research opportunities available in biomedical science. Nevertheless, the size of the Program preserves a sense of community that ensures the development of meaningful friendships and collaborations.  As an added bonus, the quality of life in the Twin Cities is among the highest of any major American city.

We invite your application to enter an exciting and substantive career as a scientist, physician and teacher.

Tucker W. LeBien, Ph.D.
