Physician-Scientist Pathway

Leaders in biomedical research train at the University of Minnesota. On the Twin Cities campus, dynamic programs in the basic sciences, clinical sciences, biomedical engineering, public health and health care policy attract a diverse group of top students from around the world.  If you are a student who is committed to rigorous research training and an investigative career spanning topics ranging from molecular therapeutics to social justice, then the Department of Medicine is pleased to offer you the Physician-Scientist Pathway.

Designed to meet all criteria required by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the Pathway consists of two years of clinical training as an Internal Medicine Resident, followed by in depth training in research; or by combined research and clinical training in the subspecialty fellowship of your choice. That’s right, if you’re heading toward subspecialty training, acceptance in the Pathway gives you a position in both the Residency and a Fellowship.
