About the Program, Medical Technology in the Medical School at the University of Minnesota

The Division of Medical Technology, within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology of the Medical School, offers a program for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. The Division also offers a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) degree, which is an articulation program for students who already have their MLT/CLT certification. The B.A.S. program is offered through the College of Continuing Education. Both programs are fully accredited, and graduates are eligible for examination by national certifying agencies.

Upon completion of the prerequisite coursework, students enter the program in their senior year. Medical technology coursework is taken during the fall and spring semester and 21 weeks of clinical rotations are completed during the summer and following fall. A broad range of clinical and research facilities at the Fairview University Medical Center, as well as other institutions in the Twin Cities and Rochester, are used for health sciences students. Medical technology students have opportunities to work with the most sophisticated and up-to-date equipment.

The Division also offers a Master of Science (M.S.) in Clinical Laboratory Science. For more information about the graduate program, visit the web site at http://pathology.umn.edu/ClinicalLab/MS_CLS.html.
