The Program of Mortuary Science at the University of Minnesota is proud to announce that program alumnus William L. McReavy (Class of 1952) has pledged a major gift to support the creation of a new, on-campus teaching center for mortuary science education. (Pictured to the right: William W. McReavy Jr., William L. McReavy Sr., Kay McReavy, and Cyndi McReavy-Seitz) The William L. McReavy Teaching Center will be an innovative space for teaching students the skills necessary to make meaningful and effective funeral arrangements.
In addition to featuring traditional, tangible product offerings such as caskets, burial vaults, and urns, the Teaching Center will also incorporate advanced, computer-based technology to present personalized and innovative funeral options to families at the time arrangements are made. State-of-the-art audio-visual equipment will be incorporated into the room’s design, which will allow for the recording of teaching sessions, and their projection into adjacent classroom spaces.

Construction of the William L. McReavy Teaching Center will begin in the Spring of 2008, and the room will be ready for use when Fall semester classes begin in September. A formal Dedication Ceremony is being planned to coincide with the Program’s Centennial Celebration, to be held on November 1, 2008.
