Dr. Bergman is Assistant Chief of Neurosurgery at Hennepin County Medical Cetner and an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota. He earned a B.A. degree in Biology at Princeton University and then went on to receive his M.D. and neurosurgical residency at the University of Minnesota. He became Board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1991.  He is also a member of Neurosurgical Associates, Ltd., a large private practice neurosurgical group based at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.  Dr. Bergman's area of expertise is in complex spine/cranial trauma.

Dr. Bergman has authored and co-authored many published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters.  He has been active in numerous associations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and Neurotrauma Society.  Dr. Bergman is currently co-investigator of an RO-1 research grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke entitled "Hyperbaric and Normobaric Oxygen in Severe Brain Injury."
