What Is The Visual Rehabilitation Center?

The Visual Rehabilitation Center (VRC) is here to provide services to those who have decreased vision that cannot be corrected with ordinary glasses, medical or surgical procedures. The mission of the VRC is to assist people with low vision to make the best use of their remaining vision in order to stay as independent and active as possible. Individual goals are established with each client of the VRC.

What Services Are Provided?

• An eye exam to identify the parts of your eye that are functioning well and those that are not.
• We would like to confirm your diagnosis (es) in order to provide you with accurate information about the prognosis of your condition.
• Instruction in eye movement skills to better use remaining vision.
• Training in ways to more easily perform daily living tasks, such as
• improving lighting
• using brighter, enlarged print
• using special devices that will enable you to do daily tasks
• In-home training in the use of lighting and adaptations you can make for safer in-home mobility and increased independence.
• Training in the use of devices such as magnifiers, telescopes and reading glasses to better see detail for reading or watching television.
• Training in the use of closed-circuit TVs, computer programs, electronic reading programs.
