Translational Research, Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota

U of M Banner in Trees

Translational research is the process of taking basic research and moving it to the clinical studies phase, which is the last major phase before new practices and treatments become available to the public.

Visit the Macular Degeneration Center research page to learn more about important translational research being accomplished in the Department of Ophthalmology.

Collaborations between our clinical faculty and basic science faculty are resulting in exciting new areas of translational research in the area of drug treatments for strabismus and novel drug delivery approaches to treat optic nerve ischemia.  Visit the site of Dr. Linda McLoon to learn about translational research in these areas.
