Conferences
- Fellows conference- first hour of bimonthly staff meetings (Required)
- Journal club and Resuscitation case review at above meeting every quarter (Required)
- Monthly fellow topic discussion after Metro conference (Required)
- Required courses of BLS, ACLS, PALS, PALS instructor, ATLS and “Benchmark lab” (Each fellow will need to arrange for these courses. Costs of these courses will be reimbursed from the program, not out of the fellow’s CME monies.) (100% attendance is expected, 80% accepted.)
- Metro conference (monthly) Required (100% attendance is expected, 80% accepted.) Fellows are expected to present cases at each Metro conference and each fellow is required to present a minimum of four cases per year.
- PEM Fellows’ conference. Fellows are encouraged to attend every year and at minimum, once in the duration of fellowship.
- Core Curriculum lectures at University of MN
- Attendance at pertinent Grand Rounds
- Toxicology Journal club and core lectures at Regions’ Hospital
- STAB room conference and core lectures at HCMC
- ACEP research workshop (EMBERS), usually in the second year.
Core Curriculum
Core curriculum lectures and seminars are required to be attended once during the fellowship. These lead to an in-depth understanding of biostatistics, clinical and laboratory research methodology, study design, grant application, critical literature review, principles of evidence based medicine, ethics and achievement of proficiency in teaching. The University of Minnesota thru WebCT and in traditional lecture format conducts these.
The Emergency Medicine Basic Research Skills (EMBRS) Workshop is offered to pediatric emergency medicine fellows to get started with their research project. This program provides a broad overview of the basics from idea to IRB approval to final presentation and publication.
