Melena Bellin, MD

Fellowship Period:
08/01/06 - 07/31/09

I grew up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota where I graduated from Park Center High School in 1995.  I received my bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa in 1999.  I received my M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 2003 and went on to complete my pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota in 2006.  My interest in endocrinology started during pathophysiology classes in my second year of medical school and was enhanced by my clinical experiences in my pediatric endocrinology rotations during fourth year medical school and residency.  I am excited to be starting my pediatric endocrinology fellowship this year. As part of my fellowship, I will be completing the Masters in Clinical Research Program through the School of Public Health.  My area of research is metabolic function after islet cell transplantation.  My current focus is on outcome after autologous islet cell transplantation in patients who have undergone pancreatectomy for chronic pancreatitis.
