Type 1 Diabetes

The University of Minnesota's Division of Pediatric Endocrinology continues a long tradition of being actively involved in type 1 diabetes studies.  The University of Minnesota is a clinical center for TrialNet.  TrialNet is a world wide network of researchers involved in studies looking at the prevention and early treatment of type 1 diabetes.  It is funded by the National Institutes of Health, American Diabetes Association and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

You are eligible for these studies:

YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR

Have a first degree relative (mother, father, sister, brother, child) with type 1 diabetes Are between ages 1 and 45 Natural History Study of the Development of Type 1 Diabetes (TrialNet)
Have a second degree relative (cousin, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, grandparent, or half-sibling) with type 1 diabetes Are between ages 1 and 21 Natural History Study of the Development of
Type 1 Diabetes

Have had type 1 diabetes for less than 6 weeks Are between ages 18 and 35

Thymoglobulin (ATG) to Preserve Beta Cell Function in New Onset Type 1 Diabetes

Have had type 1 diabetes for at least 2 weeks, but less than 16 weeks Are between the ages of 18 and 30 years A Phase II, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of PROCHYMAL™ (ex vivo cultured adult human mesenchymal stem cells) for the treatment of recently diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM)
Have had type 1 diabetes for less than 3 months Are between ages 6 and 45 CTLA 4 (Abatacept) New Onset Study
Have type 1 diabetes Are Mexican American or African American The Genetics Study

Are a pregnant woman in your 3rd trimester The expected baby has a first degree relative with type 1 diabetes

Nutritional Intervention to Prevent Type 1 Diabetes Pilot Trial (TrialNet) - No Longer Enrolling

Have a baby less than 5 months of age The baby has a first degree relative with type 1 diabetes

Have had Type 1 Diabetes for less than 3 months Are between ages 8 and 45 Rituximab-New Onset Study
