Group meets monthly, Mondays at noon at the Center for Neurobehavioral Development (CNBD) at the University of Minnesota
The purpose of this group is to collaboratively learn about and explore our understanding of autism. Additionally, we discuss possibilities for future research. We have been considering an expanded model of the nature of autism that regards autism as being influenced by a combination of environmental and genetic factors interacting with multiple body systems. Contributing factors which are being considered in our discussion group include (but are not limited to): genetic, neurobiological, metabolic, immune, gastrointestinal and environmental factors.
Meetings are monthly and held in the Center for Neurobehavioral Development at the University of Minnesota. We read and discuss core articles each month prior to the discussion. Participants are from community agencies, autism centers, area hospitals and the University of Minnesota. The autism discussion group focuses on academic research and the group is best fit to those in the community whose careers involve research (e.g., primary academic researchers, graduate students or those utilizing research to provide medical care for children with autism).
