Department of Pediatrics Ranked 14th in NIH Funding for Fiscal Year 2005

The University of Minnesota\'s Department of Pediatrics ranks 14th in NIH funding for Pediatric departments nationwide. Rising from 18th in FY 2003 the Department was ranked 13th in the United States in FY 2004 with over $15.4 million in total awards. FY 2005 awards (received October 1, 2004 - September 30, 2005) total $16.9 million. This 9% increase ($1.5 million) over the previous year\'s NIH awards reflects the talent and hard work of the outstanding, nationally-recognized faculty in many clinical and basic research areas within the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota.

Twenty-five Pediatrics faculty members received 42 grants and contracts in the form of 13 mechanisms from 11 different institutes/centers as shown below.  Awards ranged in amount from $20,000 to $1,553,521 (total costs). Pediatrics Faculty elected to the American Pediatric Society/Society for Pediatric Research

Drs. Michael Verneris, Jakub Tolar, Brenda Weigel, Chandy John Scott Selleck, Khalid Khan, Margy MacMillan, Carlos Milla, and Raghu Rao are newly elected members of the Society for Pediatric Research. This represents the largest single annual number of Department of Pediatrics faculty ever to be elected to the Society.

In addition, Dr. Elizabeth Braunlin is a newly elected member of the American Pediatric Society.
