| Chiao-Nan Chen Announced Winner of Graduate School Dissertation Fellow for 2008-2009 Rehabilitation Science student Chiao-Nan (Joyce) Chen was recently awarded a Graduate School Dissertation Fellow (DDF). The purpose of the DDF program is to give outstanding final-year PhD candidates an opportunity to complete the dissertation within the upcoming academic year by devoting full-time effort to the research and writing of the dissertation. Good job Joyce! |
| Borich, Chen, and Greising Awarded Graduate School Fellows for Summer Research The Rehabilitation Science Program at the University of Minnesota is proud to announce that PhD students Michael Borich, Chiao-nan (Joyce) Chen, and Sarah Greising have been awarded Fellows from the Graduate School at the University of Minnesota. The Graduate School has awarded the Fellows from Block Grant funds. The awards will be given Summer 2008 and are intended to help students offset costs as they progress toward the completion of their respective PhDs. Congratulations to both Michael, Joyce, and Sarah! |
| Kimberley Recipient of Dystonia Grant and MMF Research Award Congratulations to Teresa Jacobson Kimberley, Phd, PT for two recent awards. Dr. Kimberley received a 2 year grant from the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation to pursue her research titled, "rTMS for the Treatment of Focal Hand Dystonia." Dr. Kimberley also received a 2 year research award from the Minnesota Medical Foundation (MMF) for "Cortical mapping of sensory and motor areas in healthy individuals and individuals with focal hand dystonia." Dr. Kimberly is a faculty member with the Physical Therapy Program at the University of Minnesota. Congratulations to Teresa. |
| Leuneburg Winner of President's Student Leadership and Service Award Michael Leuneburg, SPT, was recently named recipient of the 2008 President's Student Leadership and Service Award. Each year, the President's Student Leadership and Service Award (PSLSA) recognize the accomplishments and contributions made by outstanding student leaders at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. It is presented to approximately one-half of one percent of the student body for their exceptional leadership and service to the University of Minnesota and the surrounding community. Awards will be presented at the President's Award Banquet taking place on May 5th, 2008 in the Great Hall of Coffman Union. Congratulations to Michael on this prestigious award! |
| Three New Adjunct Faculty Members Join PT Program The Physical Therapy Program welcomes three new adjunct faculty members: Lori Danzl, PT, GCS teaches in the Human Growth and Development course and specializes in stroke rehabilitation at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center; Karen Decker, PT teaches in the Anatomy and Musculoskeletal I courses and practices at the Minnesota Head and Neck Pain Clinic; and Lorene Rautanen, PT is a clinical instructor for the Clerkship I & II courses and practices at Jones Harrison in Minneapolis. |

| PT Program Welcomes Nuckley to Faculty The Physical Therapy Program at the University of Minnesota announces their newest faculty member, Dr. David Nuckley. Dr. Nuckley arrives to the University of Minnesota from the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Nuckley holds a BS in Bioengineering from Syracuse University and a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Washington. His specialty is musculoskeletal biomechanics. Welcome David! |
| Glasoe Awarded Grant from Arthritis Foundation Congratulations to Ward Glasoe, PT Faculty, on his successfully obtaining a $25,000 grant from the Minnesota Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation to investigate biomechanics of bunion deformities of the foot in persons with reheumatoid arthritis. Good job Ward! |
| Ludewig Recipient of NIH Grant Dr. Paula Ludewig was recently awarded a NIH R03 grant by the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research. Dr. Ludewig serves as Co-Investigator on the award with Jonathan P. Braman, MD, Robert F. LaPrade, MD, and Victor Barocas, PhD. Dr. Ludewig's grant funds a study of "Subacromial Space Reductions in Rotator Cuff Disease: Effects on Soft Tissue." The grant will run from September 2007 to August 2009. Congratulations to Dr. Ludewig. |
| Carey Awarded Two Grants from the National Institute of Health It has been announced that Dr. James Carey, Director of Physical Therapy, has received R01 and R03 grants from the National Institute of Health. Dr. Carey's R01 runs from 2007-2010 and is titled "rTMS and Motor Learning Training to Promote Recovery from Hemiparesis." Dr. Carey was also awarded a RO3 for the study titled: "Ankle Tracking Training in Stroke." Congratulations to Jim! |
