Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program, Department of Surgery in the Medical School at the University of Minnesota

At the University of Minnesota, our goal is to provide outstanding training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery patient care, teaching, and research.

We provide unparalleled mentoring from a diverse faculty who have a genuine interest in surgical education and the dynamic field of plastic surgery.

The program strongly supports applicants who have completed five years of General Surgery training, but accepts residents who have completed at least three years of General Surgery training.

The program also accepts candidates fully trained in otolaryngology, orthopedics, or other specialties as provided by the prerequisite training requirements of the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

This is a three year non-integrated program. We feel that three full years are necessary to learn the skills necessary to become a broad-based plastic surgeon. While the emphasis of the program is to provide excellent clinical training in the practice of Plastic Surgery, there are many research opportunities available to the residents and often a full-time residency research position is filled.
