Edit, rewrite, organize, and critique scholarly manuscripts and proofs for department faculty, residents, and staff. Conduct miscellaneous research for speeches and special projects. Write, edit, and shepherd through production various publications (e.g., The CUTTING EDGE newsletter, Minnesota Surgical Residents Society brochure, two 1996 issues of the international Transplantation Society Bulletin). Author original articles for publication, present papers and slide talks at conferences, teach various writing workshops, actively participate in writing-related professional organizations, and serve as a referee for several peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Research in the Teaching of English, Science Editor).

Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, August 1976 - August 1977

Taught beginning Spanish sequence. Led a group of high school and college students on a summer study trip to the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores in Monterrey, México. Co-directed and served as a cabin counselor at summer and weekend language villages in Lake Park and Bemidji. Taught evening classes in Spanish grammar and conversation for the Adult Education Program of Moorhead Public Schools. Tutored missionaries to Colombia. For two summers, performed outreach work for the Minnesota Migrant Health Service medical and dental clinics: traveled to migrant homes to assess health needs, administered medical history questionnaires, abstracted findings for head nurses and dentists, and interpreted for Spanish-speaking patients.

Planned and taught various sections of English Composition (beginning, intermediate, summer extension), Communication (with speech and linguistics emphasis), and Women's Studies 3910, Women and Language. Delivered speech on inclusive language at United Theological Seminary, New Brighton. Published literary book reviews in The Minnesota Daily. For Human Resources Development, wrote stylistic guidelines for a massive School of Dentistry policy and procedure manual and gave final approval to flow and format of subsections (July - November 1980). For the State Council for the Handicapped, did research in the State Capitol House Index, edited the legislative review booklet, revised a consumer resource guide, and prepared a poster display (Summer 1979).
