Faris, Patricia Ph.D.

Patricia Faris, Ph.D.
Associate Professor

Received her doctorate in psychobiology from the Institute of Animal Behavior, Rutgers and then was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis MO.  She then served as assistant professor of neuroscience in psychiatry at Washington University before joining the Neuroscience Division of the University of Minnesota Department of Psychiatry in 1988 where she is currently an Associate Professor.

Dr. Faris' research is focused on the role of the vagus nerves in modulating complex behaviors.  Specifically, ongoing projects include: (1) basic science studies in rat and clinical studies in eating disordered patients aimed at examining vagal control of satiety; and (2) basic and clinical studies aimed at determining the role of the vagus in coordinating interactions between major regulatory systems (e.g. satiety and inhibition of somatic pain).
