The program uses three training sites: - The University of Minnesota Medical Center, a division of Fairview, is a tertiary care hospital with a diverse patient population which includes both common and unusual diseases. The hospital is a world recognized specialty center for solid organ and bone marrow transplantation. Rotations at the University Hospital include inpatient consultative nephrology and acute dialysis, inpatient and outpatient transplant, outpatient hemo- and peritoneal dialysis, and a continuity outpatient renal clinic.
- The Minneapolis VA Hospital is a modern facility serving a large referral veteran population. The hospital is the site for an inpatient consultative nephrology rotation which includes acute dialysis, an outpatient transplant clinic, a continuity outpatient renal clinic, and chronic hemo- and peritoneal dialysis.
- Hennepin County Medical Center is a pioneering center for dialysis therapy which remains a major emphasis. The hospital serves as a site for an inpatient service which admits chronic hemo-or peritoneal dialysis patients and transplant patients who have developed acute medical illnesses. In addition there is an inpatient renal consult service, a large outpatient chronic hemo- and peritoneal dialysis population and a continuity outpatient renal clinic. Other outpatient clinics include Transplant Clinic, Bone and Mineral Metabolism and Renal Stone Evaluation Clinic, and Pediatric Nephrology Clinic.
