Anne Minenko

Dr. Minenko's clinical career spans 15 years delivering patient-centered rheumatology and bone health care in academic- and community-based facilities as well as in socialized medicine and third party payer systems.

In 2000, she joined the Division of Rheumatic and Autoimmune Diseases at the University of Minnesota (UMN).  Presently, as Medical Director of the Bone Densitometry Service at the UMPhysicians Outpatient Imaging Center , her clinical focus is DXA interpretation; her goal is for the Center to deliver exemplary DXA service through education, continuous quality monitoring, and respectful working relationships.

While rooted to the real world of patient-centered care, she teaches across the spectrum of pre-doctoral, post-graduate, subspecialty and professional levels of medical training.

As Director of the Rheumatology Elective for medical students and residents, she introduced workshops on the musculoskeletal examination with standardized patients and on joint aspiration using latex limb models.  She is the newly appointed UMN Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director.

Dr. Minenko is a UMN Digital Media Center (DMC) Faculty Fellow. Working with technology, education and evaluation experts, she is creating Web-based joint exam learning modules.  Her work and motivations to use educational technologies to promote pedagogically grounded holistic learning of the joint exam by the net generation were featured in the 2007 Departmental Annual Report (www.dom.umn.edu) and as an exemplary project on the DMC website. (http://www.dmc.umn.edu/projects/minenko/).  Now as a second year DMC Faculty Fellow, she is exploring emerging learning environments, such as campus Active Learning Classrooms for the Medical School Bone, Joint and Connective Tissue Disease course she co-directs.

For her contributions to clinical care and to education, she has been recognized by the Department of Medicine (2001 Clinical Excellence Award, 2003 Education Excellence Award), the University of Minnesota Medical Center- Fairview (2006, 2007 Medical Staff Recognition Nominee) and by Minnesota Monthly (May 2007 one of the Best Doctors for Women).  In 2003 the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) bestowed upon her the Clinician Scholar Educator award.
