Organization and Mission

The mission of the Department of Therapeutic Radiology-Radiation Oncology at the University of Minnesota Medical School is to:

  • Advance the state of knowledge in therapeutic radiology and radiation oncology
  • Provide the most optimal cancer therapy
  • Educate medical students, physicians, radiation technologists, physicists, and the public as to cancer prevention, treatment, research, and advocacy
  • Develop state-of-the-art research models that can be translated into clinical trials.

The Department of Therapeutic Radiology has an affiliate relationship with the University of Minnesota Physicians Radiation Therapy Center - Lakes Wyoming, Hennepin County Medical Center, the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, and a clinical affiliation with the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. These relationships provide residents and faculty access to a wide spectrum of patients with a variety of medical problems.

The Department of Therapeutic Radiology also has laboratories that investigate basic biologic questions in cancer-related research.
