Administrative, Teaching, Research and Clinical Service Responsibilities

  1. Director of Radiation Physics Section that consists of five staff medical physicists, one service engineer, three dosimetrists, two medical physics residents and one executive secretary.

  2. Direct and provide Clinical Physics Service for the Department. Participate in patient treatment planning, physics consultation, calibration and commissioning of radiation equipment, computer applications, radiation dosimetry and other details of clinical support.

  3. Direct educational and training programs in medical physics. Participate in teaching and training of medical residents, physics residents, graduate students, technologists. Regular courses are listed below:

    TRad 7170:Residents and graduate students (Fall semester ) (1968-present).
    TRad 7173:Residents and graduate students (Winter semester) (1968 to present).
    TRad 5512:Residents and graduate students (Summer session) (1968-present).
    Physics Course:Radiation therapy technologists (Jan.-April) (1980-present).
    *About 150 medical residents have been trained since 1970.

  6. Research and Development: basic radiation physics, radiation dosimetry, treatment planning, treatment techniques and radiation biology.

  7. Administrative responsibilities include supervision of physics staff, formulation of physics budget, developing clinical and teaching programs in physics, assuring compliance with the national protocols and codes of practice, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations, and requirements of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, radiation protection program in the department, quality assurance program and future departmental plans.

  8. Evaluation, selection and testing of major equipment for clinical use.

  9. Review treatment protocols before clinical use. Designated physicist to provide data to national study groups.
