Programs

Education is core to the Department of Emergency Medicine’s mission. Providing practical educational experience to medical students, resident and practicing physicians, and EMS students and practitioners in emergency procedures with a focus on experiences that require team performance, skills acquisition and the principles of excellent decision-making in the emergency department.

PROCEDURE LABS

The Department of Emergency Medicine offers procedure labs to health professionals and students. Procedure labs are a foundational element of medical education, and participants gain skills for critical emergencies by working in teams under the supervision of experienced practitioners.

Procedures taught include:

  • emergency orotracheal intubation
  • cricothyrotomy
  • tracheotomy
  • internal cardiac massage
  • peritoneal lavage
  • skull trephination
