Benefits

Information about insurance benefits provided to all University of Minnesota residents is available through the Office of Student Health Benefits website.

Graduate Medical Education's Resident Fellow Leave Policy, published in the Institution Manual, provides family medical leave, leave for childbirth, adoption, military service and jury duty.

In addition the Otolaryngology Residency provides:

  • 3 weeks paid vacation annually
  • 3 weeks paid sick leave annually
  • University of Minnesota Medical Center, Hennepin County Medical Center and Regions Hospital provide meal credits for on-call residents. The Minneapolis VA Health Care System does not.
  • At all of the participating institutions, scrubs are the property of the institution and are laundered by the institution. Additionally, laundering of white coats is available at no cost to residents through the ENT clinics at University of Minnesota Medical Center and the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.

Contract

A copy of the contract ("Residency Agreement") applicants will be expected to sign if admitted to our program is available through Graduate Medical Education's Resident and Fellow New Applicants Process Page.

Stipend

Base Stipend Rates 2024-25 (effective date of 6/1/24):
  • PGY1: $68,531
  • PGY2: $70,640
  • PGY3: $73,039
  • PGY4: $75,734
  • PGY5: $78,818
  • FL1 (Ped Otol, FPRS, Neurotology): $81,188
  • FL2 (Neurotology 2nd year only): $83,560
