GMER Student Travel Awards

GMER Student Travel Awards were created through endowments established by the below listed faculty or institutions.  The purpose is to encourage medical students to seek educational experiences in global health and to help enable medical students to study in another country/healthcare setting.

Eligibility criteria: 

  • Current University of Minnesota Medical Student traveling for credit during their 4th year of medical school
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must be at the selected site for a minimum of 4 weeks to receive funding and/or academic credit

Applications will be accepted through August 15th each year and students will be notified via email by the end of August.  Amount of travel awards depends on funds available and volume of applicants each year.

Drs. Neal and Sarah Gault International Study Scholarship Fund

Drs. Neal and Sarah Gault set up this fund to provide one or more awards annually to enable medical students to study abroad with the goal to enrich the students appreciation for other practices, cultures, and traditions and to encourage cooperation and improved healthcare throughout the world.

James H. and Carol E. Moller Scholarship for Medical Students

James H. and Carol E. Moller Scholarship for Medical Students

James H. and Carol E. Moller set up this fund with the purpose of providing support for global health experiences abroad for medical students.

Maynard and Elaine Jacobson Scholarship for International Medical Studies

Maynard and Elaine Jacobson set up this fund with the purpose to award funding to medical students for studies conducted in global health.

Paul G. and Elisabeth H. Quie International Child Health Fund

Paul G. and Elisabeth H. Quie International Child Health Fund

Dr. Paul and Mrs. Elisabeth H. Quie set up this fund to provide funding to medical students studying abroad with a focus on pediatric health and preferably in a less developed country.

Korean International Medical Education and Research Fund

Korean International Medical Education and Research Fund supports U of M medical students participating in the exchange program with Seoul National University in Korea. 

Scheffler International Medical Mission Trip Award

Scheffler International Medical Mission Trip Award

Scheffler International Medical Mission Trip Award provides awards annually to medical students participating in the Scheffler Medical Mission Trip to Honduras with Dr. Todd Tuttle.  Application announcements will be sent out separately and will be reviewed directly by Dr. Todd Tuttle.  Preference will be given to students with a strong interest in surgery and/or surgical oncology. 

Phi Delta Epsilon Jewish Medical Fraternity Fund

Phi Delta Epsilon Jewish Medical Fraternity Fund

Phi Delta Epsilon Jewish Medical Fraternity Fund supports U of M medical students studying abroad at Poriya Hospital in Tiberius, Israel.  This is a faculty led program held every other year.  Call for applications will be announced separately the year prior to travel.  Future dates not yet determined.
