National Background Study

Currently Stanford and Essentia clinical locations (mostly in Northern and Central MN) require medical students to have a passing national background study (NBS) in order to rotate at their sites.

All Duluth students are required to complete a NBS by August 1st prior to fall semester. Students who are not compliant are not allowed to participate in rotations fall semester. Lack of participation in rotation could lead to failure of the course. A registration hold will also be placed on your student record preventing spring enrollment. Consequences of not being compliant could lead to dismissal.

Because only Stanford or Essentia clinical locations require a NBS few Twin Cities students will need to complete one. The Duluth MS3 & MS4 onboarding specialist will contact the Twin Cities students who are required to complete a NBS via their U of M email account with directions.
