Congratulations!
Alexandra Windhorn, who has been mentored by Dr. Levi Downs,  received the Sigma Xi Second Prize for excellence in scientific efforts for her poster, "Incorporation of LVSI Status is Effective in Directing Adjuvant Therapy in Early Stage Endometrial Cancer Patients" at the 2008 University of Minnesota Undergraduate Symposium.

Dr. Rahel Ghebre received the University of Minnesota's Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) scholar award.

Dr. Melissa Geller has received an award in the amount of $30,000 from the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund to explore clinical associations between genetic profiles and drug resistance testing in ovarian cancer.

Read the latest in patient care, research, and education in the Women’s Health newsletter.  In this edition, learn about health maintenance for women of all ages, including these key health screenings:

Starting at age 18:
Blood pressure test every 2 years
Pap test and pelvic exam (starting at 18, or 3 years after becoming sexually active); every 1 to 3 years

Starting at age 20:
Cholesterol test; discuss with health care provider
Monthly mole self-exam; annual exam by physician

Starting at age 35:
Thyroid test every 5 years

Starting at age 40:
Mammogram every 1 to 2 years

Starting at age 45:
Blood glucose test every 3 years

Starting at age 50:
Fecal occult blood test every 1 to 3 years, or flexible sigmoidocopy every 5 years
Colonoscopy every 10 years

Starting at age 65:
Bone mineral density test; check with health care provider
