Evaluating an EMR-based Process to Identify Food Insecurity Among Pediatric Emergency Department Patients and Improve Connection to Community Services

In a partnership between Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota, and Hennepin County Medical Center, this study implements an electronic medical record-based screen for food insecurity in pediatric emergency department patients. In addition, we use an RCT to test a text message-based intervention to improve connection to community resources to increase levels of food security.

The ultimate goal of this study is to develop a sustainable, low-cost model that can be translated to other health care settings.
